What is RSS?

Smart Futures is equipped with an RSS news feed to provide up to the minute information to our web users. Below are details of how you can use RSS to enhance your experience of our site.
What is RSS?
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a method of receiving news and information from the Smart Futures website. Once you have set up a connection to the website RSS feed you will receive a list of all the news articles currently shown, and be automatically alerted when new data is added.
How does Smart Futures use RSS?
Smart Futures has information on upcoming projects and recently released documents. Smart Futures news is available in RSS so that your RSS reader will alert you when there are news releases and new articles, rather than having to check the Smart Futures home page yourself. When your RSS reader alerts you of new content, you get to choose whether you want to go to the site for more information.
How do I subscribe to an RSS feed?
Firstly you will need to download an RSS news reader (see 'Where can I get a News Reader' below). This is a piece of software that checks RSS feeds and lets you read any new articles that have been added to them. There are many different versions, some of which are accessed using a browser, and some of which are downloadable applications. Browser-based news readers let you check your RSS feed subscriptions from any computer, whereas downloadable applications let you store them on your main computer, in the same way that you either download your e-mail using Outlook, or keep it on a web-based service like Hotmail.
Below are general instructions for subscribing to the Smart Futures RSS feed. Your reader might be different. For specific instructions and options, see your RSS reader's help documentation.
1. Decide which content you want to receive and click on the relevant RSS feed icon on the Smart Futures site.
2. Copy the address (URL) of the feed from your browser's address field.
3. Paste the address (URL) of the RSS file into your RSS reader program.
4. Click Subscribe

Some browsers, including Firefox, Opera and Safari, automatically check for RSS feeds for you when you visit a website, and display an icon when they find one. This can make subscribing to RSS feeds much easier. For more details on these, please check their websites.
